❤️ Letters of First Love #38: Thank You, Father

Reflecting on God's love for us, and simply responding.

Dear Father in heaven,

I see my adorable son in the bouncer next to me, staring at me and giving me the brightest smile every time I look back at him.

The love I have towards this little boy is overwhelming, and somehow it continues to grow day by day. How our hearts can hold and overflow with so much love, I simply would not have been able to comprehend.

Thank you for allowing me the time and the space to fully relish this season. For you are God of peace to the restless— you draw us in to see things as you do.

Thank you for the love you’ve poured unto me to share with John and Mary.

Through this love, I ponder just how much love you have for me, and how much you desire for me to know not only that you love me (John 3:17) but also that you delight in me (Zeph. 3:17).

Do you see us looking at you, God, and when you do, smile back at us just like how I am with John?

How endearing is it to know that you exult over us with loud signing? My heart swells up and tears well up and my spirit rejoices in knowing that you are my Father.

How much of your love will abound here on earth if we saw ourselves from the perspective of your own eyes?

How much of our to-dos would we simply leave behind if we were cognizant of the fact the Spirit of the living God dwells within us “not on tablets of stone but on tablets of [our] human hearts” (2 Cor. 3:3)?

I pray during this Chrstimas season, above all, we will all feel seen by you as Hagar did at the well.

El Roi, may your children abound in your steadfast love.

I lift up the prayer Paul prayed over the church of Ephesus over all those who are hungry for you and those who have yet to experience your grace:

“I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” (Eph. 3:17-19)

God, you are so good.

May your name and banner be lifted over all else.

We need more of you, and less of us. May we be like Mary, not like Martha.

May the Holy Spirit of the living God do what the Lord wills, here on earth as it is in heaven.

May this season of Christmas bring you glory above all traditions and festivities.

May we live every day of our life, knowing what gift it is to have you as our Father and the Son Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and the Spirit as our Counselor.

May the body of Christ unite under your love and reach the hearts of those lost.

Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Father.

Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
