❤️ First Love Weekly #14: The Power of Daily Obedience
Weekly post about God in the daily with encouragements from the Word
There is a verse God has spoken into my heart that forever grounded me in Christ.
Whenever I speak this Word of God over my worries, they scatter into the void of nothingness— the same dubious place they originated from.
Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
Oh, the simple truth James speaks.
What is my life? In the grand scheme of things, I am but a mist that will come and go in a blink of an eye.
Why do I worry? Did not Jesus say, “the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them” (Matt. 6:32)?
In the same passage, Jesus instructed the disciples to instead “seek first His kingdom” (Matt. 6:33), and God Himself will take care of our needs.
One of my greatest fears is not realizing the potential God has given me to the fullest extent. On the day I’d meet God face to face, the very thing I fear is Him saying, “‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?’” (Matt 25:26).
Oh, how it misled me to satisfy my insatiable greed disguised as the Lord’s will.
The last time I fell victim to the lies of the enemy to keep striving, the LORD reminded me of James 4:13-15 and revealed the reality of His desires.
Not only does He want me to reach my full potential, but He’s also made intricate plans for such to happen. However, I must know I cannot get there by my own doing.
Only if I remain in Christ and Christ in me, I will bear much fruit (John 15:5).
Therein lies the singular ask Jesus has for me: to pick up my daily cross and follow him.
The LORD is the One who breathes life and takes life away.
He would not have given me the privilege of living today if it were not meant to fulfill a purpose of advancing His kingdom.
So here I am at your feet, God. I shall run towards the responsibilities of my day with everything I have.
For I am here to serve you and your purpose for the world therein.
My Encouragement for You
How would your approach to the day change if you were to see today as a gift from God?
My beloved, let us enrich our lives with the fullness of God’s glory in Christ.
Let us not chase after the superficial matters of life and waste our precious thoughtspace and heartspace with the worries of tomorrow.
Referring to the note last week, we are the chosen vessels that our very own Father in heaven has designated to let His powerful love overflow.
Let us behave as such and seek His kingdom and will above all.
As Jesus promised, if we take care of God’s business, we can be sure He’ll take care of ours according to His portion.
With love,
Jae
“You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.” (Revelation 2:3-5)
